What happens when systemic design meets local businesses? Visions emerge that combine tradition, innovation and responsibility.
This is demonstrated by the collaboration between the Politecnico of Turin and Exclusive Brands Torino, which, now in its third consecutive year, has led to the development of concrete project proposals aimed at enhancing synergies between businesses, recovering waste and transforming the food and wine heritage into a shared culture.
The initiative, which aimed to design an open system capable of outlining a new model of sustainable development, offered students the opportunity to gain greater awareness of their role as designers, providing them with tools to interpret contemporary complexity and actively contribute to change.
Through the analysis of material, energy and information flows within local production realities, systemic design promotes the construction of systems in which the outputs of one process become inputs for others, with the aim of reducing environmental impact and generating value through connections between local stakeholders.
During the Open Systems module at the Politecnico of Turin, the involvement of 22 companies belonging to the Exclusive Brands Torino network enabled 198 students to develop concrete systemic projects, strengthen dialogue with the business world and experiment with solutions geared towards sustainable and lasting change.
