Relais San Maurizio is a luxury resort in the Langhe, a UNESCO world heritage site. The San Maurizio is a true partnership between the art of hospitality, food and wine excellence and the pursuit of well-being.
The San Maurizio history begins when a group of Cistercian monks go up the old Salt Road and decided to build a monastery on the ruins of a chapel built a century before their arrival. During the centuries the hill of San Maurizio became a place particularly fertile for more varied crops, from the vines to the ancient cereal grains, officinal herbs and spices from the nearby Mediterranean. Even today, with great success for the territory and tradition, the Relais San Maurizio has intact the work of the first people of the hill.
In 1862, the monastery was bought by the Incisa Counts – a noble family of the surrounding valleysand transformed as a private house.
“Its history begins in 1619, when a group of Cistercian monks climbed the ancient Via del Sale and decided to build a monastery on the remains of a chapel built a century before their arrival”
The cloister is transformed in an Italian garden. The deprivation of the monks gives way to the colors of the fabrics, to warm and welcoming furnishings. San Maurizio becomes a refined and elegant private residence.
After four years of conservative restoration that preserved to the best the patrimony left over the previous centuries, Relais San Maurizio comes to life.
First five-star Relais & Châteaux of Piedmont, this place includes the excellence of the territory in every aspect: art, hospitality, food and wine excellence and pursuit of well-being.
San Maurizio becomes the reference point for refined hospitality in the world. Tradition and innovation, to give a unique experience in the heart of the Langhe.
A fascinating territory, which right from the start is the perfect frame to get to know and experience the splendor of Piedmont.
